In recent times, a vaccine containing ghrelin mimetic has been developed to combat obesity. The vaccine keeps ghrelin levels where they should be to prevent overeating. Whether or not this vaccine has been approved by the FDA is unkown.

After a bit of digging, we’ve found that ghrelin mimetic actually stimulates muscle growth in healthy adults, more predominantly the elderly. Researchers from the University of Virginia held a study consisting of some 65 elderly persons. The persons were given tablets containing ghrelin mimetic. ghrelin mimetic is also known as MK-977. The ghrelin mimetic or MK-977 is produced by pharmaceutical giant Merck. The participants that took the ghrelin mimetic or MK-977 saw a tremendous growth in hormones, to the point that they matched those of younger adults.

The study also discovered that the MK-977 increased body mass in the patients as well as muscle mass. It also slightly increased their blood sugar levels.
