Discovery Space Shuttle Landing

The space shuttle Discovery is set to touch down in Florida later this morning after a fifteen day voyage to the international space station. At the time of this writing, officials from NASA didn’t expect any delays due to weather. Back here on earth, there are millions of passengers stranded due to the plume of smoke and debris caused a Volcanic eruption in Iceland. Air traffic officials in Europe have been monitoring conditions carefully hoping to resume traffic in and out of the region. The time table in which this is set to occur is still unpredictable due to the rapidly changing conditions. There is no indication that the smoke plume would interfere with plans for landing the spacecraft. Discovery will make its voyage back home with the seven astronauts it has on board. NASA officials were hoping to bring the spacecraft back to earth on at least two occasions yesterday, however, poor weather conditions proved to be an impediment in that regard.
If everything goes as planned, the shuttle should touch down at Edwards airforce base in Florida at about 7:30 ET. Don’t be alarmed by the sonic boom which will accompany the spacecrafts entrance into the atmosphere. We hope that the astronauts will arrive safely back here on earth without having to deal with any more scrubbed missions.
