Bloom Energy, an alternative energy company that has been veiled in mystery for some years now, is gearing up to debut its fuel cell, something the company is hoping will replace our existing electrical infrastructure. This fuel cell, which has been in secret development for several years now, is said to have the potential to power at least 100 homes. This could mean cleaner and cheaper energy, something we could obviously use in these financially strapped times. Bloom Energy has already attracted the attention of some big name companies, including Google. According to CBS News, some of the twenty companies to receive prototypes of the fuel cell, which will eventually be sold for just under $1 million dollars, have already been putting them to work. Even some governmental agencies have become involved in testing this exciting technology. Unfortunately, until more testing gets underway, there is little to be said about implementation of these fuel cells to replace existing electrical producers.

Bloom Energy has got yet another piece of exciting news under it’s sleeves. It is said to be developing a fuel cell for consumers, one that will retail for well below the $700k price tag that they are seeking to get for the larger fuel cell models. The final pricing figures may vary, but the company is projecting these consumer fuel cells will go on the market for about $3 grand, which is fairly affordable.

The Bloom Energy Fuel Cell is bad news for Al Gore, who has turned himself into a millionaire selling carbon offsets. This may be a short lived gig, as the folk at Bloom are projecting that their fuel cell may reduce our carbon footprint by well above 50%. It all boils down to what natural product is powering the fuel cell.
