Ice cream giant Baskin Robbins held a special promotion tonight where patrons could get a scoop of delicious ice cream for only $.31. According to the official Baskin Robins website, proceeds from this 31 Cent Scoop Night event went towards helping firefighters. A foundation that is associated with the company will be donating $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Hopefully you joined the millions of others who took advantage of this great bargain. The folks at Baskin Robbins were pretty generous with the promotion, allowing for a maximum of three scoops at the special price. It is unclear whether they intend to hold another promotion like this in the near future.

The Baskin Robbins chain was started in 1953 and has expanded internationally to serve not only the United States, but also China and Thailand. The chain currently boasts 5,800 locations, over half of which are based in the United States. The company, headquartered in Massachusetts, introduced 31 different flavors of ice cream when it opened its first location in Glendale, California. More recently, the chain has fallen on the receiving end of criticism due to the particularly unhealthy nature of its offerings, specifically those targeted towards the “health” conscious consumer. The Health Bar shake, a drink offered at the chain, was found to have over 2,000 calories.
