Some scary news out of Colorado today, where a school shooting has unraveled at a middle school. Two students from Deer Creek Middle School, a secondary school based out of Littleton, Colorado were shot shortly after the school day ended by who police initially said was an unidentified man. At the time first reports circulated, it was unclear how the man made his way on campus. The local Sheriff’s office reported that both of the students were shot in separate areas – one inside the school facility and the other on outdoor campus grounds. These two students were later identified as a male and female. Their names are not expected to be released. School math teacher David Benke is being praised tonight for taking swift action in taking the shooter down. According to reports circulated by various news outlets, including the Huffington Post, Benke tackled the suspect and thus ended his killing rampage. He found an opportunistic moment to proceed when the suspect had to reload his gun.

The suspect is believed to have approached Deer Creek middle school students asking them whether or not they attended the institution. When the students answered with a “yes,” the suspect fired rounds at them. Police have now identified the shooter as 32 year old Bruco Strongeagle Eastwood. He appears to have no ties to the school or to the actual students in attendance at the institution. His motives thus far have remained unclear. According to one eyewitness to the shooting, it appeared as though Eastwood was picking his targets randomly.

A Littleton, Colorado high school was terrorized by a shooting rampage in 1998 after two students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, executed a personal vendetta against a select number of students. The shooters had planned to detonate a explosive device in the school’s cafeteria, which would have caused an immense number of casualties. Following the shooting rampage which cost the lives 12 Columbine High School students, the shooters killed themselves. The incident raised a number of concerns nationwide about topics such as violent video game content and child internet use. It remains one of the most deadliest school shootings in history.
