In a long awaited press conference from golfer Tiger Woods, Woods apologized for his extra-marital affairs that became a fixture of major media outlets earlier this year. Criticized for arranging a faux press conference where reporters were barred from asking questions, Woods stated the public had “good reason” for being critical of his character. Maintaining an air of ambiguity, Tiger Woods referred to his cheating ways as “irresponsible and selfish behavior,” stating that he should have never done those “things” to his wife of nearly six years, Elin Nordegren. According to the golfer, his personal apology to her will entail much more than just words, but rather his actions over an extended period of time.

Nordegen is said to have vandalized Woods’ Cadillac Escalade which crashed into a fire hydrant on November 25th 2009. The subsequent media frenzy that resulted brought fourth Woods’ infidelity. In the coming weeks, more and more mistresses began to come forward with little but a peep from Tiger, who eventually apologized for his “transgressions” in a written statement that was aired alongside audio recordings of Woods asking one of his many mistresses to remove his name off her phone.

Woods took a moment to address an apparently skirted issue in this whole debacle, which is whether or not Elin assaulted him during the night of the confrontation. He states that he was never physically assaulted that night, or any other night by his wife.

Woods acknowledged that the healing process would be challenging and time intensive. However, he emphasized that he wanted to keep it private.

The golf star ended closed the press conference with final, yet seemingly heartfelt apology, asking fans and family members to find a “place in their heart” to forgive him. After making his way from behind the podium, Woods gave his mother, seated in the front row a hug.
